We met via Tinder, and since the first day we hung out, we have never stopped. Michael proposed on the way to my parents’ house in Dallas, and his coworker texted him saying she was mad he didn’t tell her the exciting news. At that point, I knew it was happening that weekend.

My dad then texted me that he wanted to grab lunch before we headed home. I thought it was a little odd since we were going to see him in two hours, but I said okay. He told me he would pick the restaurant, which was another red flag since he always asks me to pick. The restaurant he sent me was the Dallas Arboretum, which is a massive botanical garden. It has a restaurant inside, but it’s just a small café. At this point, I knew it was happening.

Then my dad, who is EXTREMELY timely, texted that he was going to be late — major red flag. We pulled into the arboretum, and it was a crisp 110°. So we’re walking around waiting for my dad to get there. He then called Michael and said that he wasn’t coming. My first thought was, “Okay, well let’s leave since it’s a million degrees outside,” but Michael wanted to walk around some more.

So I’m beet red, sweating, practically crawling, and Michael says, “Oh, let’s go to that bench” lol. We’re walking, and we stop at this oak tree. He asks to take a selfie, so we take the picture. I start to walk away, and he says, “WAIT.” I turned around, and he was down on one knee.
