Ashton Gardens North Houston is a stunning place to celebrate your wedding, with scenic gardens and a beautiful chapel.
Our love story is unique in that we met in the operating room! João and I crossed paths by chance during the COVID 19 pandemic. I was in the final month of my physician assistant graduate studies when I was pulled from my surgical rotation at MD Anderson Cancer Center and placed at Houston Methodist. That’s where I met João, he was my surgical resident, and we were on the same team.
We first worked together on a cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal), with me assisting him as the lead surgeon. He asked for my number that same day, saying he needed to create a group chat. After my rotation ended, he asked me out to the Houston Zoo near the Texas Medical Center, and the rest was history. Two years later, he mentioned taking me to Brazil to meet his family. We traveled to Porto Alegre in Rio Grande do Sul, where he went to medical school, and then to Erechim, his hometown. At the end of our trip, we flew to Rio de Janeiro, where João had plans to propose to me at Christ the Redeemer, the one place I’d always dreamed of visiting in Brazil.
We want to be able to relive our wedding day and look back at all the memories and what better way
to do that than a video that touches all the highlights of our special day. I want to be able to share the
video with my future children.
Y’all are the best! We instantly connected with Chris during our Zoom meeting and knew we wanted to move forward with the team. All the work produced by Topher Films is absolutely phenomenal, and I’m so excited to see what the team will create for us!
I am a physician assistant at MD Anderson Cancer Center, specializing in hepato-pancreato biliary (HPB) cancer. I treat and perform surgeries on patients with liver cancer, stage 4 colon cancer, pancreatic cancer, and more. Recently, I was honored to be nominated as one of only two physician assistants in the HPB field to represent North and South America at the International Hepato-Pancreato Biliary Association. A few months ago, I traveled to Cape Town, South Africa to present and represent America. Another significant achievement for João is his recent graduation after completing five years of general surgery residency at Houston Methodist. He is now a plastic surgery fellow at UT Health in Houston, aspiring to become a craniofacial plastic surgeon. João envisions having his own practice one day, alongside a stem cell lab integrated with AI technology. In his free time, he self-teaches robotics and machine learning.
Beyond our career goals, our top priority in life is each other and our faith in God. I am very close to my family, my parents, sisters, and niece and nephew and they’ve adopted João as their own son since he doesn’t have family in America. We love spending our free time exploring coffee shops, riding our bikes along the trail downtown, and enjoying fine dining in Houston. We also love traveling whenever time allows. What’s most important in life is not getting bogged down by the little distractions and cherishing every present moment.
We love the traditional chapel feel and the crystal clear glass ballroom/reception hall at Ashton Gardens in North Houston. While we are traditional, we also want to incorporate some contemporary, classic, and elegant vibes. Our wedding colors are white, ivory, green, sage, with hints of blush or light pink/dusty pink. We are especially drawn to venues like Ashton Gardens that offer plenty of natural lighting.
We want our guests to enjoy the wedding as much as we will! We also want them to feel that it’s truly ‘our’ wedding. We’re incorporating elements of our culture and things we love into the celebration. For example, the cocktail hour music will feature Bossa Nova, and we’ll be serving salgadinhos along with brigadeiros as a surprise dessert treat. I’m also bringing in a boba bar. In the lobby, we’ll display photos from my tea ceremony, which took place earlier during Lunar New Year. Additionally, I’m creating a ‘Leave a Rx for a happy marriage’ notepad for guests to fill out, adding a personal touch from our shared profession.
